This just in…stop the theft of water by corporatations

This from Independent Texans:

Water marketers are swooping in across the state to take advantage of the existing anarchy of Texas water policy, commodifying water in a modern day a gold rush. Most Texans also get that water should stay where it is and it should be conserved, particularly in burgeoning metropolitan areas. What’s more, communities should make economic development plans consistent with their surrounding resources. But many a Texas politician together with their developer/robber baron friends (read: Rick Perry and others like his biggest contributor, faulty homebuilder Bob Perry) won’t let logic get in their way, especially when there’s plenty of money to be made.

This is the petition language:

Kill the Trans-Texas Water Highway!

To Statewide Elected Officials and members of the Texas House and Senate: We, the undersigned voters of Texas, hereby demand that you settle the escalating Texas water war in the next legislative session by enacting legislation to:

1. Require that municipalities practice serious water conservation.
2. Further define water as a natural resource, not a commodity, in keeping with the Conservation Amendment to Texas Constitution (Article 16, Section 59). (Local communities should plan economic development based on the availability of water in their area.)
3. Require developers pay the true costs of water – growth should pay for itself!

If you have taken money from water marketers, we respectfully demand that you recuse yourself from voting on these issues in the next legislative session.
